Senior Netball team at Catherine McAuley Westmead
The Senior Netball Team, with Coach Mrs Howlett, have won the 2024 PDSSSC Senior Netball Competition.

Three cheers for the Senior Netball Team who have won the PDSSSC Competition!

The grand final was played last Thursday, 25th July 2024 against St Patrick’s Marist Dundas with the Catherine McAuley team winning 28-19. The Senior Team had an outstanding season remaining undefeated throughout!

For the Year 12 students on the team, some of whom have played together representing Catherine McAuley since Year 7, it was sad to wear the netball uniform for the last time. Natayla S. has played netball for the school since Year 7 and says it didn’t really hit her that she had just played her last game until team captain Alyssa handed out the winning medals at the end of the game.

“Alyssa gave a speech acknowledging that it was our last game together and then I felt sad because I am never going to play with these girls again”, Natayla said. “It was good to end on such a high. We have formed a bond over our Years 7 to 12 netball years and we have grown together. We all know how to play together as a team so it was definitely sad”.

Alyssa C., Year 12 student and Leader of Sport has also played on the team since Year 7 and has represented Catherine McAuley in many representative sports including netball, oztag, touch football and basketball. The game last week was the last time she will represent the school in sport. “One of the main reasons I chose to come to Catherine McAuley was for the sport so it has been a big part of my schooling life”, Alyssa said.

“It was a bittersweet moment. Playing sport for the school gave me something else to look forward to aside from just studying. It also gave me something else to think about. I like that representative sport was on a Thursday as it broke up the week”.

As Sports Leader Alyssa encourages all students to consider trying out for a sporting team. “Just try out for anything which you can”, she says.

It is a great opportunity to get involved in the school community and you can also use it as an activity to put on your resume and things like that. And of course you will have lots of fun.
