Each term the school has a different focus for social justice and fundraising and for Term 4 it is the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS).

Clare, Coolock and Dobson Houses will take the lead on fundraising for JRS and educating the school community on the services JRS offers to refugees and forcibly displaced people.

The House Leaders of Clare, Coolock and Dobson presented at the assembly last week to remind the school community of the mission of JRS and its activities. “The JRS mission is to advocate and serve refugees and forcibly displaced people,” they told the assembly. “They help refugees with affordable housing and accessible resources; as well as also provide emergency relief and temporary accommodation for those refugees and asylum seekers in desperate need.”

While someone is in the care of JRS they also assist with a range of services such as English classes, legal advice, social support groups, womens’ spaces, employment assistance and financial help. JRS also has a foodbank to help refugees and forcibly displaced people and in Parramatta this helps 150 families each week.

The House Leaders told the assembly that there are many ways we can help support JRS and all those they serve. “We can become a mentor, sponsor a refugee or participate in fundraising initiatives. Some of the initiatives that we will be running this term include a snow cone stall, Santa photos, a bake sale, a keyring stall and more exciting things to come”. The House Leaders advised students to look out for announcements on Compass.
