Ms Refalo, School Principal, welcoming Year 11 students back to school.
The return to school for Year 11 was a day filled with energy, connecting with each other after what was a long time apart for many of the girls, and gaining the skills and knowledge for the most effective start to Year 11 and senior studies.
The students were privileged to hear from Victoria Carr, School Captain Class of 2022, who spoke about the importance of setting goals, working steadily throughout Years 11 and 12 and understanding that when motivation fails (as it will on numerous occasions), discipline is required to get work completed and stay on track for success.
Victoria is presently in London on exchange for university and is a living example of a person who has set a goal and worked steadily and with self discipline to achieve that goal. She is certainly still a Mercy woman ‘striving for higher things’.
The remainder of the day provided students with specific skills to understand the requirements of Year 11 and the expectations of students in this stage of learning. These sessions include HSC Requirements presented by Ms Brincat, Director of Studies; Using Library Resources For Productivity presented by Ms Lorenzutta, Teacher Librarian; Healthy Practices For Senior Study presented by Mrs Brown, School Counsellor, and Preparing For Life Beyond School presented by Ms Xuereb, Leader of Learning Pathways & Partnerships.
Mr Michael Hall, Assistant Principal, speaking to the Year 11 students.
The presentation slides have been uploaded to the girls' ‘Our CMW Journey’ Google site for students to check the information as a reminder throughout the first semester. Parents can also look at the information presented to students by clicking on the links in the school newsletter. The information was certainly highly beneficial to ensure a successful senior school experience for each student.
As we commence this year, it is imperative that all students are present and engaged every day. Learning is most effective when students are engaged in the discussions and activities that occur in the classroom and in the playground after classes. This does not happen if students are not present for all lessons.
We look forward to this new phase of the journey with these extraordinary young women and to share their challenges and successes this year.
