Lea Zeydan, Dux of 2024 with School Principal Mary Refalo.
Lea Zeydan was announced as the Dux of 2024 at the High Achievers' Assembly this week and in her address passed on some words of wisdom she had heard from past dux speeches over the years.
Lea advised Year 7 students to not be afraid to make new friends as she said some of her closest friendships weren’t with people from her primary school but those she met along the way. Lea also advises Year 7 students to get involved and embrace new experiences. “Stepping outside your comfort zone will not only build your confidence but also open doors to incredible opportunities you might never have imagined.”
Lea Zeydan gave words of advice to students in her assembly address.
For Years 8 and 9 students Lea advised them to simply enjoy school. “I know it’s not always easy, but try to approach each day with excitement and an open mind. I encourage you all to participate in class and get involved, it will make your school days so much more enjoyable.”
“Year 10 is the perfect opportunity to experiment and find study methods that work best for you,” Lea told the Year 10 students. “While Year 11 is a significant step up, I found the transition much easier because I had already developed strong study habits in Years 9 and 10. By building a solid foundation early on, I was able to manage the challenges of senior school with far less stress.”
Lea told the Year 11 students that this year will be unlike any before, bringing new challenges and opportunities. “To navigate it successfully, surround yourself with supportive friends to study with. Whether at the library or on FaceTime, motivated classmates help you stay focused.”
The School Captains congratulated Lea on her announcement as Dux of 2024.
And finally to Year 12 students Lea told them that despite all the stress and challenges Year 12 was her favourite year. “If I had to pinpoint the key to my success in Year 12, I’d say it all comes down to your mindset. You need to try your best to love what you’re learning because when you do, everything changes.” Lea also advised Year 12 to never be afraid to ask for help. “Whether it’s raising your hand, emailing your teachers, or going the extra mile to understand a tough concept, it will all pay off when you face that one challenging exam question and realise you already know how to tackle it.”
Lea finished her address by wishing all students at Catherine McAuley an incredible school year. “I hope you make the most of every moment and embrace all the opportunities that come your way. I’m so excited to see each of you strive for higher things in your own unique and remarkable ways.”
