The Year 9 Commerce Market Day was very popular with staff and students.
Year 9 Commerce students ran a very successful Market Day this week as Mercy Square was transformed into a number of ‘small businesses’ selling their products.
The first market day was held on Tuesday, 20th August and a second day will be held on Friday.
“I think we might have some successful business women in the future in these classes”, said Mr Campbell, Social Science Teacher. “The market days are the result of three terms worth of work. Everything the students have done in class was part of the lead up to today”. The aim of market day is for students to experience the process of running a small business from market research through to selling and business reporting.

“This business activity stimulates the process of running their own small business”, said Social Science Teacher Mrs Stevens. “It allows the students to apply their knowledge about consumers, business operations, promotions and financial management which they have gained in the study of Commerce”.
New York style cookies, waffles and ice cream, brownies with toppings, croissant cookies (known as a crookie), doughnuts, lolly bags, cake pops, stationary items, manoosh pizzas, cinnamon rolls, and much more were all available for students and staff to purchase. The market day is always a highlight on the school calendar and an event the Commerce students look forward to.
