Dobson House, winners of the Athletics Carnival at McAuley Westmead
Dobson House were the winners of the House Relay.

The 2025 School Athletics Carnival did not disappoint with a new school record made, Dobson House winning the House Relay, an exciting 100m Final and the Year 12 students dressing as tennis players for their final school carnival.

Year 8 student Salamatu K., Dobson House, set a new school record in the 14 Years 200m race with her time of 28.77 seconds, beating the previous time of 29.08 seconds. Salamatu would go on to help Dobson House win the House relay.

The final race of the day was the House relay, giving all the students watching in the stands a final chance to cheer their loudest. It was a very close race with only 0.01 seconds between first and second place with Dobson House just beating Mercedes House. Third place went to Ryan House.

Congratulations to the students who took part in the 100m Final, the Fastest Girl at the School, and to the winner Bailey S., a Year 11 Ryan House student. 2nd place went to Salamatu K., Year 8 Dobson House and 3rd was Evonne S., Year 10 Veritas House.

This year Year 12 students choose tennis as their dress up theme with the students dressing in matching tennis outfits which included visors in House colours and a ‘McAuley 2025’ logo in House colours printed on the back of their polo shirts. The tennis theme was chosen by the Year 12 students after the SRC organised a vote for the best theme.

Jade, Year 12 student and Leader of Caritas House, said she was feeling bittersweet for her last school carnival. “It is good to come together as a community and Year 12 is a very close group so it is fun to be together.” Ashley, Year 12, said that she was feeling nostalgic as they made these final memories together. “It makes you appreciate all the other years you have been here as we now realise this is our last carnival.”

Ms Papazoglou, Sports Coordinator, said it was great to see all the students dressed in their House colours and she encouraged students to have fun and try their best. Students were able to participate in both competitive and non competitive events which included running, high jump, shot put, long jump, triple jump and discus. Novelty races were also held for each year group giving everyone a chance to earn points for their House.

The day began with the House cheers which Ms Refalo declared were as good as they have ever been.

The carnival was an excellent day of athleticism and community, with lots of student participation and good sportspersonship throughout the day
