Year 9 students attended a careers incursion on Wednesday, 6th November 2024.
Year 9 students attended a career incursion on Wednesday this week where they participated in a series of workshops covering resume writing, interview preparation, career exploration and how to create a Unique Student Identifier (USI).
The first workshop for the students was, ‘Writing a Winning Resume’, and was presented by Kathryn Taylor, Director and Founder of Turning Point Consulting. Students learned essential techniques for crafting effective, competitive resumes that confidently showcase their strengths and unique capabilities in future applications.
Following this, the interview preparation session provided practical strategies to help students present themselves professionally and respond effectively to common interview questions. Additionally, students were introduced to career websites such as mcauleycareers.com, jobjump.com.au and myfuture.edu.au which can be used to research different pathways and broaden their understanding of various career options and post-school opportunities.

Term 4 Fundraising For Jesuit Refugee Service
Each term the school has a different focus for social justice and fundraising and for Term 4 it is the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS). Clare, Coolock and Dobson Houses will take the lead on fundraising for JRS and educating the school community on the services JRS offers to refugees and forcibly displaced people.

A Pomegranate in Pieces
Year 12 student Mikaela B. S. was named as a Finalist in the What Matters Writing Competition. This competition, organised by The Whitlam Institute, is open to school students in Years 5 - 12. It asks them to respond to the simple question, ‘what matters?’ with a fiction, non-fiction, poetry or prose piece of up to 600 words.

AROUND THE CLASSROOMS ➡️ And the winner is….. Today in Miss Grow’s Year 9 Food Technology class the students were competing in a fun cupcake decorating competition. 🧁🧁 The students had made the cupcakes in an earlier lesson and spent this lesson decorating them. The cookie monster cupcakes won ‘Most Creative’, the s'mores cupcakes won ‘Best Executed’ and the pink cupcakes won ‘Highly Commended’ for their piping skills. Teacher Miss Grow inspired the students with her halloween and sunflower inspired designs.

‘Strive For The 5’ is the 2025 school theme which was launched today at the school assembly. ✋ The ‘5’ represents the five Mercy values of Justice, Excellence, Hospitality, Courage and Integrity. “It is a way for us to implement these values into our everyday lives at school,” Emily and Kaitlin, School Captains, told the students at the assembly. YEAR 8 😀 The Year 8 students spent the morning together as they continued to ‘Share Their Story’. The Year 8 Pastoral Care Morning was led by Mr Chris Doyle, from Karis Ministries, who spent time with the students examining the mercy values and in particular the value of integrity. Through dance, song and lots of fun activities the students engaged joyfully in the session.
