Year 11 Student To Compete In North American Irish Dancing Championship
All the best to Sophie S., Year 11 who will travel to Montreal, Canada at the end of term to compete in the North American Irish Dancing Championship which will be held from 1st - 5th July. This is an elite competition for the best Irish dancers and attracts competitors from all around the world. Sophie will be competing in the Solo event for 16 Year Girls.
Sophie has been participating in Irish dancing for 9 years through the Halloran Dance School, Moorebank. She says she likes Irish dancing because of all the friends she has made from around Australia and she finds competing a fun experience. Sophie will travel with her mother to the competition and is looking forward to the experience of competing in an international competition.
Year 9 Student Competes In International Tennis Foundation Tournament In Malaysia
Well done to Chanel A., Year 9 who recently competed in the International Tennis Federation World Tennis Tour Juniors Tournament in Malaysia. Chanel made it through to Round 2 in what was a very high standard of competition. Chanel was chosen to compete at this level following her success in the Australian Clay Court Championship in Canberra over the recent school holidays. In this event Chanel placed 4th nationally. Congratulations Chanel!
Year 9 Student To Compete In NSW All School Swimming Championships
Congratulations to Elisha H., Year 9 who has been selected to compete in the NSW All School Swimming Championships to take place on Friday, 3rd June at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. It is a significant achievement to compete in this competition given it brings together all the very best swimmers from all NSW School Sporting Associations. Good luck to Elisha!

Former School Principal Receives Order of Australia Medal At Government House
Not a student achievement but a very significant achievement for former Science Teacher and Catherine McAuley School Principal (1984 - 1987) Sr Barbara McDonough RSM who received her Order of Australia Medal at an Investiture Ceremony held at Government House in Sydney on Wednesday, 18th May. Sr Barbara was awarded in this year’s Australia Day Honours List for her services to the church and education. The ceremony was hosted by Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC.

AROUND THE CLASSROOMS ➡ Year 7 Geography students of Ms Khoury have been learning about tectonic plates and how they move under the earth. This week in class the students had the opportunity to recreate this movement using Mars Bars and Oreos to show the three different types of boundary movements: convergent, divergent and transform. The students were able to see what occurred as a result of the movement as the caramel moved out of the Mars Bar and bits of cookie chipped off the Oreos.

YEAR 12 GEOGRAPHY FIELD TRIP 🍃🌧 Yesterday Minnamurra Rainforest was the classroom for the Year 12 Geography students as they studied this rainforest as their HSC ecosystem case study. The students collected data on soil, humidity, heat and light, completed vegetation studies and transects and even squeezed in a 4 km hike to the beautiful Minnamurra Falls. A short walk to Werri Beach late in the afternoon to enjoy the scenery and beauty of the coastal environment and then back to the accommodation before heading off on Day 2 of their HSC field trip today.

Year 8 Clare Tokens of Friendship 🥰 This week Year 8 Clare participated in an optional activity with the aim of reunifying them in friendship for the school year. Students were randomly allocated to another participating student and were simply asked to create 'a token of friendship.' Homeroom Teacher Ms Spelman said the students really enjoyed the opportunity to create and gift an item to another student in their Homeroom. “It was a great experience shared by all,” Ms Spelman said.

DUX OF 2024 ANNOUNCED 🥳 Congratulations to Lea Zeydan who was announced as the Dux of 2024 at today’s High Achievers' Assembly! Lea received an overall ATAR of 97.75 and gained a band 6 result in Biology, Economics, Physics, Mathematics and Studies of Religion. Mr Michael Hall, Assistant Principal, congratulated Lea on behalf of the Catherine McAuley community. “You certainly embody the Mercy value of excellence and are a remarkable role model for our community,” Mr Hall said. Lea has accepted an offer from the University of Sydney to study a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce.

STRIVE FOR HIGHER THINGS 👏👏👏 Congratulations to the high achievers from the Class of 2024 who returned to school today for the High Achievers' Assembly. Each of these students received an ATAR of 90 or above, placing them in the top 10% of the State, with the highest placed student ranked in the top 3%. Ms Mary Refalo, School Principal, addressed those gathered in what she said was one of the school’s most favourite assemblies. “Today we recognise and acclaim all students who completed last year’s HSC, but in particular, we celebrate those who have achieved an ATAR of over 90 in their HSC.” Those who attended the assembly were presented with a flower and certificate and their success applauded by the Catherine McAuley community. The students and their families then gathered in Dobson Green for a morning tea.

AROUND THE SCHOOL GROUNDS ➡ Each Thursday a small group of students have nominated to be part of the Environment Group. 🌱🥕💦These students help look after the school gardens and tend to their vegetable plots. Currently just planted in the vegetable garden are carrots, cucumbers, snow peas and beans.

A Great Start To The Year 7 Year 10 Peer Mentoring Program
Every Thursday afternoon for one hour Year 7 students will meet with their Year 10 Peer Mentors for a mentoring session. “The Peer Mentoring Program is an opportunity for the Year 7 students to become familiar with the way our school works, learn about our Mercy values, learn study skills and of course make new friends,” says Mrs Tracy Cowling, Leader of Learning Wellbeing Year 7.

YEAR 7 YEAR 10 PEER MENTORING 😀 The Year 7 Year 10 Peer Mentoring Program began this week with the Year 7 students meeting their Year 10 Peer Mentors for the first time. The first session was spent with lots of getting to know you games and tips on how to use the student planner most effectively. “The Peer Mentoring Program is an opportunity for the Year 7 students to become familiar with the way our school works, learn about our Mercy values, learn study skills and of course make new friends,” says Mrs Tracy Cowling, Leader of Learning Wellbeing Year 7. “Just hearing about the school from an older student is different than hearing it from a teacher. And for the Year 10 students it gives them an opportunity to experience leadership.” The Mentoring Program will run for one hour each week during Terms 1 and 2.
